The National Cattle Congress organization traces its roots back to 1910 to the annual meeting of the Iowa State Dairy Association. It was so successful that Waterloo became the permanent host site for what would become the world-renowned National Dairy Cattle Congress. Thousands of visitors flocked to Waterloo each fall to show or observe prize-winning livestock and home arts exhibits, wander through the displays of the latest and greatest farm and home equipment, and enjoy first-class entertainment. The focus was to provide an opportunity for farm families to meet and learn about modern dairy farming in a “fun” atmosphere.
